The Monarchs were expecting a close match and drew attention to Tony Robinson being a former holder of the Meadowbank track record. Tony turned out to be a major disappointment and just a couple of points from him could have easily swung the match in the Tigers favour.

The second-half reserves race featured Bert Harkins, Alf Wells (returning from injury) and Shorty Schirmer. Jack Kitchen was due back in town next week riding for Great Britain in the first Test match against 'Overseas'. Britain included Doug Templeton, Jimmy Squibb, George Hunter, Maurice Mattingly, Eric Boothroyd & Jack along with Willie Templeton & Jimmy Tannock at reserve. Overseas were Wayne Briggs, Geoff Mudge, Ivan Mauger, Bob Duckworth, Trevor Redmond & Ray Cresp with Dudley McKean and Alf Wells at reserve.
